This is the link to an interesting article written by an author who seem to have been taught how to play shogi by his Japanese teacher in his Japanese class. He called captured pieces "zombies". It's my first time to read an article using this terminology for the captured pieces in shogi.
Shougi is quite similar to chess, in some respects, but there are a couple of key differences. One is that all of the pieces except the king get promoted if they reach the last three ranks of the board. Another is that you can bring captured enemy pieces back into play on your side.
ME: Zonbi mitai na.
BS: He---eeh?ME: Like zombies, huh.
BS: Yes, just like zombies. How very apt.
I think this metaphor is hilariously good. If you are interested in the full story, click the link above. One minor correction is that pieces which cannot get promote are not limited to King only. Gold cannot either. But this is not important. I would like you to enjoy the wording of "zombies".
