I just like to inform you quickly that Moriuchi won the seventh game of 65th Meijin-sen against Challenger Goda yesterday. He defended the title with the score of 4-3. This means he has been Meijin for 5th terms and is now entitled to be the 18th permanent Meijin folllowing to the 17th permanent Meijin, Tanigawa.
Hi Takodori,
is one entitled to Permanent Meijin by winning 5 times or 5 times in a row?
kind regards
Marc

ahh, seems to be "enough" to win 5 times. However, not quite easy. :-)
What do you think of the fact Moriuchi couldn't win a major tourament before the year 2002? Late starter? He is at the same age like Habu and they entered Shourekai at he same time.
kind regards
Marc

Hello Marc,
It's enough to win 5 times. Not necessarily winning 5 times in a row.
I think Moriuchi said he abondoned his perfectionalism about shogi in a shogi magazine. To my understanding, he now does not stick too much to what the best next move is. The change on surface is his consumption of thinking time. When he was younger, he spent a lot of times in the opening. But now, he don't do that too much.
