On January 11 and 12, the 1st game of 59th Osho sen between Osho Habu and Challenger Kisei Sato was held in Tochigi prefecture, Japan. The first game ended with Sennichite(repetition) in 70 moves in the afternoon of the second day. Sato was a sente player of the Sennchite game as a result of Furigoma. After a short break, the rematch started switching their turns. Habu was a Sente(Black) player.
Sato won the game in 68 moves. He intentionally allowed Habu to get promoted his Bishop in the 9th file in the opening. And he dynamically transferred his Rook from the central file to 9th file to give threat to take the promoted Bishop in the middlegame. I think it was a brilliant maneuver. You may replay the game here. Also, you may replay the Sennichite game here.
The diagram above is resignation diagram. Habu resigned the game when Sato moves his promoted pawn from 9g to 8h. There was no mate. But as you can see in the possible variation below. Sente was hopeless at the diagram.
The possible variation after the diagram;
S-6g +R-7i L*7h G*8g(mate)
G*8b K-6a P-5c+ +R-9g L*8g N*5e Gx7b Kx7b +Px6b Kx6b +Bx8a G*6g Sx6g +Rx8g K-6h +Rx6g(mate)
G*8g K-6a Gx8a +R-9g L*8g N*5e N*5c Sx5c Px5c+ G*6g Sx6g +Rx8g K-6h +Rx6g(mate, this line is replayable in the diagram.)
Sato led the score by 1-0. Sato needs 3 more victory to take the Osho title since the match is 4-wins match. The second game will be held in Shiga prefecture on January 18 and 19.
