Marc, Thanks for the info. I think it's good that people have choice of reading the contents on the Net or in the booklet.

i had inquired about the Osama in shogi
as in 玉, that there should be only one. at the site The full gamerecord is available at here in Tokushima Shimbun(Japanese site).
the Osama pieces there are two of the above but in all the better shogi sets and even the plastic one there is only one 玉.
I learned that the sente player used the 玉 and the gote player used the 王. yet at the above site there are two of the sente Osama (玉). why is this

takodori

It's just a custom that most shogi piece sets have 玉 and 王. In that case, a higher ranked player or older player shall use 王, It has nothing to do with turn of playing(Sente and Gote). I don't understand why you stick to 玉 and 王 so much. Double 玉 are orthodox as well.

thomas giles

as you say a stronger player or older player has the Osama as a sign of respect to that player for his or her skill and hard work to get to that level. I direct you to
www.asahi.com/shougi/index.html
and the shogi board, you will see that there are two (2) different hands one the 王 and 玉, and that you are using the word incorrectly or misunderstand it ie
orthodox adjective 1 orthodox views conventional, mainstream, conformist, (well) established, traditional, traditionalist, prevalent, popular, conservative.
the world has become unorthodox, and should return to some orthodox as in this "I don't understand why you stick to 玉 and 王 so much" as these small things are the building blocks to "ethics, morals, honor, (BUSHIDO). this world is in need of them as never befor.
that is why I stick to them.

takodori

Thanks for explaining why you stick to them.
