According to the  article above, World Mind Masters hold World Xiangqi Masters Tournement for the last three years and will hold an extended tournamnet this year. Xiangqi seem a starter and their intention is to hold verious kinds of intellectual boardgame masters tournaments including Shogi. THe following sentenses are found in the article linked above.

"Having successfully hosted online and live World Xiangqi Masters events in 2005, 2006 and 2007, WMM intends to add to its stable of annual events by introducing championship events in other great intellectual mind games, including Go, Shogi, Checkers and International Chess."

Episode 291 of Naruto had shogi scene

Episode 288 of Naruto(Episode 71 of Naruto Shippuuden) aired in Japan last Thursday. There was a shogi scene between Asuma and Shikamaru for almost 2 minutes. The filler story seems to end in this episode and it went back to the manga story in the end.
