Sente's turn to play. This is an endgame position where Gote dropped a kNight on 35. When you have this sort of position, you are usually in byoyomi and it is extremely hard to read through all the variations. Your instinct may tell you that the N*35 is a threatmating move such as Nx27+ Kx27 G*26..., since Gote's 85 horse and 66 pawn are likely to work eventually well. So what should you do? The ideal proceeding is to make forced checks and finally make a threatmating move with simultaneously neutralizing Gote's possible mate threat. I let GPSfish calculate this position for 10 minutes on my PC, it evaluated more than 78 million positions but it failed to find the correct move and, very interestingly furthermore, it said the position was slightly favors Gote. So if you find the right answer, you can beat one of the strongest machines in this position! Actually, it is a problem of Hisshi in eleven.
