Boardlive today - Watanabe vs Hirose, 36th Kio Challenger deciding match

Today is the day for the challenger deciding match between Ryuo Watanabe Akira and Oui Hirose Akihito. The winner of this game will be the challenger against Kio Kubo Toshiaki. Whichever wins, the next Kio challenger will be in his twenties. The game just started at 10:00am at JSA building in Sendagaya. As a result of Furigoma, Hirose became Sente. The allotted thinking time per player is four hours so it will end around 7:00pm(Japan Time).  You can replay and watch the game through the following link;

Watanabe beat Hirose in 94 moves. One correction, Watanabe needs one more win to become the challenger since he lost onece in the Kio tournament while Hirose did not until today. The next game will be held on January 6, 2011.

These games started at 10:00am today. The allotted thinking time per player is 40 minutes and each player will have to make a move less than 60 seconds per move after consuming it. The winners will compete each other at 2:00pm.

Habu vs Akutsu will start at 2:00pm in Japan as a game of 4th  Asahi Trophy Shogi Open.

This game started at 10:00am in Japan. It will end after the abovementioned game since the allotted thinking time per player is three hours.

This morning the following Asahi Trophy games were played. The winners will have another match at 2:00pm.

• Habu(Sente, Winner) vs Miura
• Akutsu(Sente Winner) vs Namekata

For me, Akutsu vs Namekata was a very exciting game especially in the endgame. I recommend you would replay it.

Boardlive today & tomorrow - Meijin Habu vs Ryuo Watanabe, 6th game of 23rd Ryuo-sen best of seven match

Today and tomorrow are the days for the sixth game of 23rd Ryu0-sen best of seven match between Meijin Habu and Ryuo Watanabe. Before the game, Watanabe leads the score in 3-2. The venue of this game is at Hotel Anssocia Takayama Resort in Gifu prefecture.  Habu is Sente. Day 1 started at 9:00am and the sealed move will be made this evening. Day 2 will start at 9:00 also tomorrow morning. Since Watanabe pushed his Rook pawn to 8d at the second move, Habu had the option to decide the opening and his choice was Bishop exchange(Kakugawari). Watanabe averted the identical formation of double reclining Silver. You can replay and watch the game on the official virtual board linked below;

November 2010 Top 20 shogi players list

I updated the the list of Top 20 players at the end of November, 2010 according to a fanELO site. Here is the link to it.  6-dan Toyoshima Masayuki jumped up to 7th place from 16th place in the previous month with becoming the Osho Challenger.
