Today is the day for the 2nd game of 58th Osho-sen 4-win match between Habu Yoshiharu(Osho, right in the photo)
and the challenger Fukaura Koichi(Oui) at Coganoi Bay Hotel in Nanki Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture. Nanki Shirahama is one of the aesthetic landscapes on the seaside. It
started at 9:00 am. Habu is Sente Player. The opening strategy is Gote's B-3c at the fourth move. Sente traded the Bishops and then Gote transferred his Rook to the 4th file and to the 8th file. Before the game, Habu led the score in 1-0.
The
allotted thinking
time per player is 8 hours and less than 60 seconds per move
after consuming it. The game is expected to end in the evening of tomorrow(based on Japan Time).
I've been waiting for this for a while!
It's really great; well done AI! One request would be to make the
Japanese style pieces a bit easier to distinguish. Well done!
Try This
If
you have never heard of shogi and you like western chess you should
give this a try. Shogi is extremely popular in Japan. It adds an extra
level of complexity and fun by allowing you to use pieces that you
capture. On your turn, instead of moving a piece you can place a
captured opponents piece almost anywhere ( with some restrictions) on
the board. If you think about this, it opens up a lot of strategic and
tactical options. You wont be disappointed.
On January 25, the 1st game of 35th Joryu-Meijini-sen 3-win match between Joryu Meijin Yauchi and Challenger Joryu Osho Shimizu was held at Unazuki International Hall Selene
in Kurobe City, Toyama prefecture. As a result of Furigoma, Shimizu
became Sente player in this game. The opening strategy was Shimizu's Migi(right)-shikenbisha. Yauchi's countermesure was to transfer her rook to the 4th file as well. I was a little surprised since Yauchi usually play static Rook(Ibisha) opening. Shimizu led the position in the middlegame, but Yauchi persisted for a long time and finally turned it around. She won the game in 196 moves.
The diagram below is the resignation one where Gote dropped her Gold
on 7g as threatmate. After the position in the diagram, the followig
variations would be possible. Sente would be hopless in any cases.

In Japan, who will delegate to B1 is a hot topic rather than who will be a challenger against Meijin. Due to last year's standing and the pairings of rest two games, only top three players on the above list are sure to survive in the A-league for the next term. Two of the rest seven will delegate to B1. They will not be rerieved unless gaining 5 wins this term. Round 8 will be held on February 4 and Final Round on March 3.
