Today is the day for 18th LPSA 1 day tournament called Family Cup. It's a pair shogi tournament this time. You may replay the games through the kifu for flash links below;

The thinking time per pair is 5 minutes and less than 30 seconds per move after consuming it.

Naruto Shippuuden 82(Naruto Episode 302) has shogi scenes

Naruto Shippuuden 82 has shogi scenes which I think is the longest insertion in  one episode. The following page briefly illustrates the content of the episode.

Shikamaru was not there to join the funeral. His out there greiving on its own. He went home and sits beside the pond still greiving when hi father ask him to play shogi. As he and his father play shogi, his father talks about Akatski and Asuma. Shikamaru can't hide it anymore and shows his sadness. His father told him to let it out as the first step. At dawn when his finally tired of crying. He picks up the shogi board and the pieces and saw the "king" piece. Then picks up the other pieces and play alone until he figures out a plan.

Habu took the second game as well - 21st Ryuo-sen 4-win match

On October 30 & 31, the 2nd game of the 21st Ryuo-sen 4-win match between Ryuo Watanabe Akira and Challenger Meijin Habu took place in Lake Toya Hotel Lakeside Terrace in Hokkaido. Habu was  Sente player since so was Watanabe in the previous game. The opening strategy is both Yagura. The game ended with Habu's victory in 131 moves. The diagram below is when Watanabe resigned just after Habu dropped his Bishop on 4a. After the diagram, Gote's King cannot avoid forced mate. Here are some variations.
