Here is the entry titled "Games that are not chess-Shogi. I think it's an effect of Clubhouse Games on DS which offers 42 kinds of board/card games including shogi.

The article mentions to Habu who is one of the top shogi players and plays chess as well. As many of readers of this blog is already aware, Meijin Moriuchi also plays chess very well. Here is the latest news in the shogi-l about Moriuchi's chess trip to France.

Boardlive of the first games of Asahi Open Cup today

On July 7, the first games of Asahi Cup open (knockout) tournament  are being held in Japan. 10 games between professionals(4 dan) and Top ama players are scheduled and to be on boardlive. You can watch and replay these 10 games through the webboards below(Kifu for Java capable browser needed). Thinking time per both players is 40 minutes + 60 second byoyomi.

We have two boardlives today. One is 78th Kisei title match. The 4th game between Kisei Sato and Challenger Ryuo Watanabe. The other is 20th Ryuo-sen. Habu(3 crowns) vs Fukaura(8 dan). Both games are expected to end this evening in Japan.

Result of 3rd game of 78th Kisei-sen

On June 29, the 2nd3rd game of 78th Kisei-sen between Kisei Sato and Challenger Ryuo Watanabe was held in Hyogo prefecture. Watanabe was Gote and won the game in 126 moves.  Sato still leads the score by 2-1. He needs one more victory to defend the title.

The diagram above is the resignation diagram when Watanabe dropped his Silver on 3i. After the diagram, Sente's King will be mated immediately as followings;

Result of 7th(final) game of 65th Meijin-sen

On June 28 & 29, the 7th game of 65th Meijin-sen between Meijin Moriuchi and challenger Goda 9 dan was held in Aichi prefecture, Japan. As a resut of Furigoma, Goda was Sente(Black, or lower side of the diagram) player and Moriuchi won it in 158 moves. Moriuchi defended the title and got entitled to be the 18th permanent Meijin.  You may replay the game here.

Number of shogi players decreased to 144 in Brainking.com at End of Junw

According to the ratings page of provisional BKR players in Brainking.com, the number of shogi players who has provisional BKR decreased to 144 at the end of June(JST). The site has added shogi to its wide variety of game line since August 12, 2005(JST). Comparing with the end of May, 2007, the number of shogi players decreased by 11. Please refer to the definition of BKR(BrainKing Rating) if you like to know. .

The number of minishogi players who has provisional BKR is 113 at the end of May.
