These two entries are very interesting to me.
chrisglass: Clubhouse Games --- This entry includes the photo of shogi screen in Clubhouse Games for Nintendo DS. According to the photo, the pieces used in the software is a piece with one Kanji character on.

I think Nintendo Ds clubhouse games could have been a good introduction for games like Shogi. With 2 screens they could have made 1 screen for playing the game and optionally shown the game rules simultaneously in the 2nd screen. Now to see the rules you select the rules. The rules screen replaces the game screen. Then to resume the game you have to close the rules screen. So to check the rules during play you are jumping back and forth between play and rules. Much better would be 1 screen with the game and 1 screen with the rules.
