Habu became Meijin Challenger for 70th term

Habu became the Meijin Challenger since he beat 9-tan Tanigawa yesterday and scored 8th straight win in A Juni-sen. Since no one follows him with one loss due to Tanigawa's defeat, he became the Meijin Challenger for the 70th term against Meijin Moriuchi. A Juni-sen is a round-robin league of the top ten players to decide a challenger against Meijin.

JSA commemorates 400th anniversary of Meijin system this year. Tokugawa Shogunate created the title of Meijin then, though it was not a merit system like today. We will see the duel between the two giants who are entitled to be permanent Meijin who held five or more terms of Meijin in this memorable year. Meijin title match is expected to start from this April.
